We are excited to announce that starting on April 7th, Legacy Church will be moving to two different worship service times on Sundays. We will have two identical Sunday worship services at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. that people can join us at.
We know that all change comes with some level of worry and fear, but we hope you will join us in celebrating this change and seeing it as a significant move towards reaching more people and better serving the people that already call Legacy their home. Below is an attempt to answer many of the questions that people will have. Please read through these and join us in praying for God to lead us in this transition. Also, please take a moment and fill out this brief survey which will assist us in preparing and planning.
Why Are We Adding an Additional Service?
The decision to add another Sunday morning service was one that has been discussed and prayed over by the leadership of Legacy for quite some time. While there are many reasons why we believe this is the next step God is directing us in, the primary reason is that we believe this move will help us better accomplish our mission of helping people believe God, find freedom, discover their purpose, and build the Kingdom. We believe this move will help us in three strategic ways:
- This move will better serve and love our children in Legacy Kids: Our children’s classrooms are near and sometimes over capacity and we have actually had to ask some parents to keep their children with them during the service because the rooms are too full. Overcrowding the classrooms is not beneficial to our children or the leaders who lovingly serve them. Adding a second service will lower the numbers in each class and will better serve our kids and leaders in those classes.
- Allowing people to serve and not miss the Worship Gathering: Right now we have over 90 volunteers on the Dream Team who faithfully serve. Currently this requires many of those serving to miss our main worship service two weeks a month. Adding a second service will allow people to Serve at one service and still join a worship gathering on the same Sunday. We hope this culture of “Attend one, Serve One” will become a regular part of the DNA of Legacy.
- Allowing more people to be a part of the Worship Gathering: More options opens the door for more people. Because of work schedules and other obstacles a 10am service is not possible for everyone, but an earlier service and a later service option creates more opportunities for people to come. At the heart of this decision is a desire to see more people meeting, loving, and serving Jesus and we believe adding a second service will allow us to reach more people with the Gospel.
Frequently Asked Questions
When will the transition take place, and what will the new gathering times be?
April 7th, 2019 will be our first Sunday going to two services. In asking a lot of questions and doing a lot of research our belief is that the optimal service times will be 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Will the gathering itself change at all?
No, our worship gatherings will remain the same and the two services will be identical in form and format. We love what God is doing in our worship gatherings and an emphasis on God’s Word preached, dynamic worship, encountering God’s presence, and a time of connecting with one another will remain our focus.
Will Legacy Kids and Youth be offered at both times?
Yes. One of the primary reasons we are making this move is to add more space for our kids and youth. To be able to offer these ministries at both services we are asking our current leaders to serve a little more often… but our real hope is that many more people will join in to love and serve our kids together.
Won’t this “divide” us as a family? I already feel like I don’t know everyone.
This is a real concern that we have labored and prayed over. The reality is the larger a church gets the harder it is to “know everyone,” even if we all gather together. The primary purpose of Sunday morning worship is for the glorification of God and edification of the saints. Fellowship and community is a great added bonus, but the main vehicle for community at Legacy is Life Groups. So if you are not connected to a Life Group yet, please take this opportunity to find one. Life Groups are really where church becomes family. Our location is not what makes us family, our faith and shared mission is what makes us family and that will never change.
Will we ever gather together as one large family again?
YES! This move will make it even more critical that we think through ways for our whole church family to gather together and that is exactly what our leadership is praying about. We don’t have all of the answers, but we will be much more intentional of finding times for our whole church family to be together throughout the year.
Are there needs with this new change that I could help with?
Another great question…YES! One of the ironies of a church growing larger is that often times a smaller number of people do a greater amount of work. This is not good! At Legacy everyone serves. We want as many people helping and engaged as possible, and this change will provide ample opportunity for that. We will need more help with Media (sound, audio, video), Worship, Legacy Nursery, Legacy Kids, Guest Welcome, Ushers, Set Up/Take Down, etc. This is what a family does…it takes turns serving one another! Young, old, married, single, boys, girls…there’s room for everyone.
If you are interested in helping serve our growing family there is a simple form to fill out that we’ve linked to below. We are always looking for more people to use their gifts to serve others at Legacy.
The final thing we would ask is please PRAY! Pray that God would continue to use our church as a family on mission for His glory and celebrate that now there are more opportunities for that to take place.
