What is 21 Days of Prayer?

From the beginning of Legacy Church, we have made it a priority to seek God first in prayer. We do this collectively as a church in January and September through 21 Days of Prayer. These two months are intentional, as they begin new seasons of the year. We know that when we take the time to seek God intentionally, God reveals His heart and changes ours. These 21 days are important for laying a solid foundation for the season ahead by putting God first and trusting him. Join us as we intentionally seek God in prayer and believe for Him to move abundantly above our expectations. We invite everyone to participate and even fast if you are called and able. We ask each one to pray for your own spiritual life and development, our church, and our nation.

JANUARY 4-24, 2026

As we step into January and all the new beginnings that come this time of year, we recognize the immense power and significance of prayer in our lives. Prayer is not just a routine or a spiritual discipline—it is a way to walk in agreement with God. When we align our hearts and minds with His will, incredible things happen. There is power in agreement with God, and we believe that as we come together in prayer, we will see His hand move in mighty ways.
 
From January 4th through the 24th, we invite everyone to join us for Legacy’s 21 Days of Prayer. Our theme for 2026 is, The God of More than Enough. During these 21 days, we’ll focus our prayers on the book of Philippians using a YouVersion Bible plan. This plan will help us focus our hearts and prayers as we seek God’s direction for the season ahead, both for our church and in our personal lives. Prayer with fasting

During the January season of 21 Days of Prayer, we encourage fasting as a spiritual next step that can bring clarity and revelation into your life. You can also choose to fast at other times of the year as you seek God.
The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives. Remember, your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.
At Legacy, we encourage fasting for 21 days each year in the month of January. This is part of 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, a season of focused prayer as a church family. You may also choose to fast at other times during the year for your own spiritual development. It’s very typical to fast a single meal, a whole day, or three days or more. The timing of your fast is not as important as the strength of your focus on God as you fast.

Your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

  • Complete Fast: In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.
  • Selective Fast: This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the
  • Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.
  • Partial Fast: This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.
  • Soul Fast: This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
